The lamina propria is the periosteal membrane which lines the |alveolus| (tooth socket). It lies below the |gingeval epithelium| at the surface and adjoins the neck and roots of the tooth. The lamina propria is also known as the mandibular or maxillary |periosteum|, depending upon in which bone the |alveolus| is located. It carries the |nutrient vessels| and ~nerves~ for the |alveolus| and the tooth itself.
